In 2021, I realized I wasn't getting what I wanted from retail stores; my style was evolving, as were my tastes and my size, so I had the "bright idea" to sew my own clothes. Little did I know then that I would need much more than just a sewing machine, a few patterns, and YouTube videos to fulfill my dreams.
For a while, I truly thought I just wasn't good at sewing. Thankfully, I eventually figured out that, much like math, sewing takes practice. The more you practice, the more you learn. Once I finally got the hang of it, there was no turning back. As I began to understand the craft, I started making my own patterns for projects like skirts and bags. I became motivated by what I could create with just a needle, thread, and fabric.
Don’t get me wrong; sewing is entirely about the process. There is always a new technique to master or a new notion to learn how to use, which can become overwhelming at times, but I have learned to embrace that journey. Since I started, I can see how learning to sew is deeply connected to my personal growth. I’ve learned to be more patient with my progress, take the time to plan, and stay the course even when I make mistakes.
To be a sewist is to be a lifelong learner and, at times, a rebel. Learning to sew was one of the best decisions of my life; beyond the joy it brings, it grants me the freedom to create whatever i want. I am sharing this portfolio to pass on that joy and, hopefully, to inspire your own creative journey. As you explore these pieces, I hope you see more than just fabric and thread. I hope you see the tangible results of patience, persistence, and growth. Whether you are a seasoned pro or have never picked up a needle, I invite you to imagine what you could bring to life with your own two hands.
